“WHERE THE SNOWS ARE NEVER GONE” FULL-LENGTH RE-ISSUE
NEGATIVE EXISTENCE (MARCH 2011)
Old Wainds, as such, is an institution situated in Murmansk, Russia. Diabolical experiments with fast Black Metal are done there in the heat of the night. Far away from any prying eyes.
What we have here is not a new concoction but the reappearance of an old one. Originally released by Zimargla Power Productions in 1997, then under a monicker in Russian I dare not try to pronounce, and then re-released a couple of more times through the years before finally, in our Lord’s year 2011, being re-released by Negative Existence.
On the debut album Old Wainds went all Eastern-Europe on people’s asses and did an album that sounded like something pulled right from the cradle of Polish Black Metal circa 1995. The whole feeling around this album screams Graveland although Graveland has never gone for the high speeds Old Wainds liked to embrace a dozen & two years ago.
The only time Old Wainds slow down is in the latest track “Cold Mourning of the Pale Moon” which is just as good as just then the album goes from being something that passed you by to something memorable. That track, with it’s macabre ritual atmosphere, pushes this album up a few steps.
